Today’s reading is part of a lengthy passage describing the Israelites’ powerful deliverance
from Egyptian control. Notice how the Israelites’ freedom comes at a great cost to the
Egyptians, through the loss of their sons. Leaving the Land of Slavery is accompanied with
bloodshed. How does this point toward Jesus’ death on the cross? How does God eventually
take this sacrifice upon himself?
Notice God’s detailed instructions to the Israelites in observing Passover and pay attention
to what God allows the Israelites to take with them as they hastily left 430 years of
enslavement. How dependent on God are they for their freedom? What responsibilities do
they have in leaving slavery?
